After the COVID-19 pandemic, many say that the "era of big government" has arrived again. Governments around the world have spent huge budgets since the pandemic to expand loans and provide subsidies. The role of the government is expected to continue to grow in the future to protect its citizens and the nation from the economic and climate crisis. Meanwhile, the importance of social care services is also gradually expanding. It is said that the pandemic crisis does not come to everyone equally. For this reason, care provided by the state for the socially disadvantaged, such as the elderly, low-income, disabled, and children, who are more vulnerable to crisis, has recently expanded a lot.

Protection by others is very important, but it is actually also very important for us to protect ourself. There may be limitations in protecting ourselves from enormous external shocks such as economic crises and climate crises, but we need to know how to overcome the big and small trials we face in our lives. In other words, we need self-care. Self-care is not simply an act of comforting yourself or forcing yourself to be unconditionally positive. It is not to sublimate the problems that arise to you due to external circumstances into personal training or individual morality, and it is not true self-care to find positive connotation in difficult situation. It is important to learn lessons from failure, but sometimes there are bad situations that cannot be decorated with any positive words. Instead of trying to force yourself to look positively at negative situations, think about what practical things can restore yourself. First, taking a walk. Getting out and moving will definitely feel better than lying in the room doing nothing. Immersing yourself in something for at least an hour a day and exercising strenuous are also good things. If you concentrate on something using your physical energy, you feel better and refreshed. Rest is also very important. Get 7-8 hours of sleep. These are all good ways to live a successful day. And you have to make these actions a habit.

In addition, self-care requires solidarity and mutual assistance with your community. Kim Jung-hee-won, a professor at Arizona State University, said, "We need an environment in which we can support each other's self-care through solidarity with the community." The community can be a family member, a friend, or someone who is going through the same hard situation as you. If you share the problems that you’re currently experiencing with them, they will be of great help in recovering your wounds. It doesn't have to be a professional consultation or a direct solution. Just having a conversation can comfort us greatly. Create a network where we can contact, talk, and take care of each other anytime. I hope that self-care will allow many people to live a sustainable life.
