If you are a student of CAU, you must have heard of at least one of the events held by the Office of International Affairs (OIA). Chung-Ang University's Office of International Affairs is an organization that implements cooperation with world-renowned educational institutions. OIA oversees leading the conclusion of educational and research exchange agreements between universities abroad. It is also responsible for the exchange programs, international student admissions, and their academic management. In addition, the OIA is in charge of planning various programs that maximize students' global competency. Let's find out more about what programs OIA is running with CAH!

1. Regular Exchange Program

a. Schedules and Qualifications

In the first and second half of every year, OIA accepts exchange and visiting student support and selection for students enrolled in CAU. At the time of application, you must be an undergraduate student who has completed the 1st semester or more and the 7th semester or less, or the student who has been enrolled in the 2nd or more and 8th semester or less at the time of dispatch. Students dispatched to the 8th semester are required to submit the oath of registration for the 9th semester. In addition, applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the previous semester and overall GPA, and it is also necessary to obtain a language proficiency level above a certain standard.

b. Partner Universities and International Exchange Program Blog

The OIA has agreements with partner universities all over the world, including Asia, Africa, and North/South America, and recently signed new agreements with 35 universities in the UAE, Cambodia, China, and North America. You can get the opportunities to apply for exchange students through the notices and schedules of universities that accept exchange students by referring to the website of OIA, every semester. Furthermore, OIA runs a page that describes in detail the experiences of exchange students or students who have already been, and through the official website of CAU. This is the only exchange student information that is provided officially, in detail for students who wish to become exchange students.

2. Short Term Program

At OIA, students can take a short term program for about 3 weeks provided by partner universities during the summer and winter semesters. Currently, most of the programs are being conducted online due to the pandemic, but still, you can take various lectures on languages, countries, and foreign cultures. A maximum of 6 credits can be accepted according to the school's seasonal semester regulations. After completing the program, a related certificate of completion can be issued from the OIA. The application process is relatively simple. Students can register for the program by directly checking the short-term program they want to take from the notice on the website of the OIA and submitting documents such as the course completion plan and participation application confirmation certificate. Various partner universities offer short-term programs every season. For example, in the summer semester of 2022, National Chengchi University in Taiwan will provide a lecture on stagnation/landscape development history/economic policy in East Asia and Taiwan. Partner universities offer lectures on various topics such as politics, economy, and culture of the country they belong to, allowing students to learn more about international topics than the classes they take during the regular semester. According to the student A who majors Business Administration, who took the lecture 'Impacts of COVID-19 and Its Aftermath: The Implications of the Pandemic on Domestic and International Policies' at Loyola University, USA, during the 2019-2020 winter semester said, “Through this lecture, it was good to learn about the causes of failure and the policy-making process along with realistic data. I learned a lot because the professor interpreted the changes in international relations from various perspectives during the pandemic.”

3. Double Degree

Our Double Degree program provides the participants the opportunity to gain two degrees: one from CAU and another from one of accredited partner universities. Not only will students acquire two different degrees, but they will also acquire greater understanding and intercultural skills required to compete in a global market. Unfortunately, it has been temporarily suspended since September 2020 due to pandemic. As of March 2020, Feng Chia University (Taiwan), Toulouse Business School (France), The University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business (USA) has three universities designated as partners for the dual degree program. According to the officials, whether or not to resume is undecided, but it is hoped that it will resume soon so that students can acquire credits in various environments.

4. Convenient Service for Foreign Students

Although students experienced inconvenience during several non-face-to-face semester, OIA continues to provide various convenient services, online campus tours, and guides for life at CAU. For students who are not good at Korean, GLAM, the global ambassador of CAU OIA. They are a group of students who are trained to facilitate global activities on campus and offer friendly advice and help for exchange students. They are serving the role as campus life advisor, provide pre arrival assistance, and design cultural events. OIA deals with dormitory-related information and medical insurance for international students. OIA also encourages foreign students to engage in various student activities. If you check the [Degree Student]-[Notice] on OIA’s official website, there are information about careers for foreign students who are relatively hard to achieve those notices than Korean students. the website also provides guidance on applying to graduate schools through the foreigner screening process. Since OIA is in charge of all the relevant application qualifications and the detailed schedule for the Graduate school entrance exam, students who are interested in this can refer to this by entering [Admissions]- [Undergraduate].

If there is an overseas university program that you are interested in or considering an exchange student, or if you are an international student who has questions about school life, the door of the OIA will be always open for you. OIA will be glad to provide generous support for linguistic and knowledge-rich experiences of every student. CAH hope that you may apply any courses or programs that intrigue you and have a university life without regrets!
