Did you know that Chung-Ang University (CAU) students can use a desktop rather than a laptop on campus? Students who want to use a desktop on campus, please pay attention. CAU allows students to use a desktop computer on campus for their convenience. There are two ways to use a desktop on campus, using a desktop owned by CAU or bringing your own personal computer onto the campus. Computer Lecture Room and Open Computer Room

Computer Lecture Room

There are three computer lecture rooms on the Seoul Campus and four on the Anseong Campus. The computer lecture rooms on the Seoul Campus are B101, B102, and B105 of the Law School Bldg (303), and on the Anseong Campus are rooms 2231, 2232, 2233, and 2234 of the College of Foreign Languages (801). Since classes are held in the computer lecture room, students can use the desktop only between the classes in these rooms. Therefore, for using a desktop in a computer lecture room, students must get permission from the manager. Students can visit or inquire about the available times. On the Seoul campus, you can visit the Open Computer Room at the Law School Bldg (303) or call 02-820-6420, and on the Anseong campus, you can visit the 2132 on the first floor at College Foreign Language (801) or call 02-820-3501. If you have checked the available time, you then can apply to use of the facility and get approval by the administrative office of the college to which the computer lecture room belongs. Then, you must scan the checked application form and send it to the manager's mail. The manager’s mail adress is lbhwwr@cau.ac.kr for Seoul Campus, and restart@cau.ac.kr for Anseong campus. The computer lecture room’s operating hours are 9:00 to 21:30 on the Seoul campus and 9:00 to 18:00 on the Anseong campus, and are also available on weekends and holidays.

The open computer room on the Seoul Campus is B104 of the Law School Bldg (303) and at the Anseong Campus are 2131, 2134 of the College of Foreign Languages (801). Unlike the computer lecture room, There are no lectures held in the open computer labs, so students can use computers there more freely without the permission of the manager. The methods of use desktop are as follows: First, find a free seat and enter your CAU portal ID and password on the desktop you want to use. The initial allowed time is 180 minutes, and if you want to use it longer, you can extend once for an additional 180 minutes. If you are away for a time while using the desktop, you should click “Step Out”, and if you are done using your desktop, you should click “Completed Using” to shut down the computer. If you don't click "Step Out," you will be checked out because your time accumulates even if you are not using the PC. The open computer room runs from 9:00 to 21:30 on Seoul Campus and 9:10 to 17:30 on Anseong Campus, and is not open on weekends and holidays.

The Rules for Bringing a Desktop onto CAU

Students who do not have a laptop or need to use a personal desktop for assignments can register their personal desktop on campus. As CAU IT Help Desk notify, in order to bring a personal desktop to campus, students should report their desktop to the relevant departments, to prevent controversies such as copyright disputes caused by illegal software use and for efficient personal desktop management. The reporting procedure is to fill in “personal PC register” downloaded from the website. You should then submit the document to the college or administrative office in the area where you want to bring your personal desktop. There are precautions when bringing personal desktop onto campus. First of all, a desktop with illegal software (SW) installed cannot be brought onto campus. If illegal SW is installed on a personal PC, it will be taken out to the campus as soon as it is detected. Second, illegally download files cannot be downloaded to a personal desktop brought onto campus. If you have any of these files on your desktop, you must remove all illegal files before bringing your personal desktop to campus. Third, SW provided by CAU should be downloaded only to school owned desktops. Therefore, you should not download software provided by CAU to your personal desktop. Finally, you must download the essential SW program required by CAU on the desktop you want to bring onto campus. For your reference, when bringing in another desktop other than a personal desktop or a desktop owned by CAU, you must download and fill out the "Pledge to Use Genuine SW" from the website and submit it to the college or administrative office in the area you want to bring in.
