The student cafeteria located in the dormitory of Chung-Ang University’s Seoul campus is scheduled to reopen in the second semester of 2022. The student cafeteria in the dormitory was suspended from the end of January because of the shortage of cooks and the decrease in the number of people visiting cafeterias due to COVID-19. However, these days, as COVID-19 regulations are loosening and daily life is going back to normal, many students will start to return to school and the cafeterias are planning to operate again. The director of the cafeterias in the dormitory at the Seoul Campus said that the student cafeteria in Building 308, which has a high occupancy rate, will start operating on September 15th, and the student cafeteria in Building 309 will be resume operation October 4th. The student cafeteria in Building 310, which was the only one operated last semester, had large crowds due to the conversion of face-to-face classes and could not handle the demand, resulting in longer waiting times and increased labor intensity of the cooks. As more students and professors are expected to use the student cafeteria in the second semester of 2022, they are preparing by increasing the number of cooks so that the same problem does not occur again. Students are able to use the application “PAYCO” to reward points at the cafeterias. However, there has been no discussion about the resumption of vegan diets. Due to the lack of demand for vegan diets and the sharp rise in the cost of food materials, they will first normalize the student cafeterias and then discuss the vegan diet in practical terms. When they offered a vegan diet in the past, there was a problem with the lack of demand resulting in a lot of food waste, and the director said, there are currently no plans to restart it now. It would be good for students to pay attention not only to the cafeteria in 310, but also to those in 309 and 308, so that people do not flock to only the 310 building.
