Some people think that we can spend summer Christmas meaningfully with lighter, cheaper, and more convenient summer clothes, but winter Christmas is the best when it comes to the origins and conventions of Christmas. First, let’s look at Santa Claus, the representative figure of Christmas. “Saint Nicolas” from Patara, Türkiye is the origin of Santa Claus. He always distributed gifts to children to end the year happily every December. He threw pockets with golden coins down chimneys to lessen the burden of people who received the gifts, and the pockets became the socks hanging above the fireplace. So, children started believing that Santa Claus gave them gifts by entering through the chimney. Clement Moore, a theologian from New York concretely described Santa Claus in his poem, “A Visit from St. Nicholas.” In this work, Santa Claus was described as handing out gifts riding a sleigh of a reindeer with many presents. Thus, Christmas in winter is the best since the times when Santa Claus was depicted are in the winter. Let’s also look into the Christmas tree which cannot be missed at Christmas. It was Martin Luther, a German evangelist who decorated Christmas trees at first, reminding us that winter is suitable for Christmas. He symbolized the image of moonlight reflecting on the fir tree to the providence of Heaven when he was walking the forest path on the snowy winter night. Accordingly, winter is an appropriate season for Christmas in terms of tradition as we can conclude the Christmas tree, a necessary decoration for Christmas came from winter. Therefore, winter Christmas is classic for these reasons!
