The Chung-Ang University (CAU) Center for Human Rights is offering Gender Equality and Human Rights Education to raise members’ awareness in order to improve equal relationships and a safer sexual culture on campus. It provides psychological, legal, and medical support services and education for human rights violations, sexual harassment, sexual violence, and even family violence. Let’s learn about the programs offered by the CAU Center for Human Rights to create a human rights-friendly and gender-equal community culture.

1. Participate in the Supporters’ Activity
“Human Rights Supporters (Ingwonnalae),” a human rights education program promoted by the CAU Center for Human Rights, aims to secure participants and contribute to the promotion of human rights awareness on campus through continuous education programs. The Human Right Supporters program selects social issues of the time, conducts research, holds seminars, and presents them. In 2020-2, the 5th Human Rights Supporters produced card news with the themes of ‘disability rights movement’ and ‘COVID-19 and human rights.’ The card news was posted on the Center for Human Rights’ Social Media, website, and at the Dongjak-gu Office. It was also made into a booklet and distributed in each building on campus. Human Rights Supporters recruit at the beginning of the semester and receive a certificate of completion at the end. Currently, the 10th generation is underway. Recruitment targets are students of CAU, and each meeting runs for about 90 minutes every Wednesday, up to 8 times in the first semester. When the activity ends, participants can receive not only a certification but also mileage in the rainbow system. How about participating in Human Rights Supporters activities, learning human rights issues through various themes and cases, and contributing to enhancing general human rights?
2. Counseling Request and Process
Counseling at the Center for Human Rights is available to every member of CAU. Applications can be made in person, by phone, or online. Visit the center after making a reservation for the consulation time. In addition to psychological counseling, the client can receive legal and medical support from a professional researcher to help resolve their case. When a case is filed, a professional researcher attempts mediation. If an amicable agreement is reached between victim and aggressor through the consultation process, the consultation is terminated. However, if it is not resolved through arbitration, it is referred to the task force and legal action is taken to resolve the case. When a task force is convened, necessary measures or disciplinary measures are recommended for the accused, and the decision and measures are notified to both the victim and the accused. For more information, visit the CAU Center for Human Rights website. If you have experienced or witnessed human rights violations, sexual harassment and violence, or other unfair treatment or discrimination, do not suffer alone and seek help from the Center for Human Rights. Professional researchers will listen to your story, share your difficulties, and suggest wise solutions.
3. Education Programs Provided By Center for Human Rights
a. On/Offline Education Program for Gender Equality and Human Rights
The CAU Center for Human Rights also conducts “Online Education for Gender Equality and Human Rights.” All members of CAU are required by law to take preventive education course in sexual violence and domestic violence every year. You can take the course by clicking the ‘Online Education’ button at the top right of the Center for Human Rights website, choose the course you would like to take, click the ‘play’ button and the video clip will begin. After you have watched all the video clips on the list for the course, you can take the test to finish the course. If you pass the test, you have completed the course.
Offline special lectures which were suspended due to COVID-19 have returned since this semester. Students can now take either online or offline courses. Students can participate in the offline special courses through advance application, and information on the training date, location, and lecturer can be found on the website. The Center for Human Rights provides preventive education programs in English in both online and offline special lectures. Therefore, students can take the course following their preference. At CAU, if a student does not complete this education, he/she will be disadvantaged by not being able to check their grades. Make sure you don’t forget to attend the education!
